With worldwide deliveries now standing at over 6,000 units (as of april 2005), the XDCAM Professional Disc system is grabbing the attention of the international production community. Less than a year after launch, more than 2,500 units have been sold to European broadcasters, confirming the format's success as the most successful ever introduction by Sony of a new broadcast system.
Reflecting its appeal to professional program makers, XDCAM is attracting fast-growing support from the third-party vendor community. More than 25 hardware and software developers have already capitalized on the format's adherence to open industry standards - including support for the MXF file format and MPEG-based proxy video transfers - to create new solutions that enhance workflow innovation.
Offering all the benefits of file based, IT-oriented acquisition and production in a rugged, go-anywhere package, the appeal of XDCAM is now strengthened with the worldwide spread among broadcasters.
This list is increasing every day : for instance in Europe we can see the BBC, France 3, Sky News, the German broadcaster WDR, MTV, RTR (Russia), and the TSR in Switzerland entering this new technology.
